Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity

Residential Architecture

Two existing buildings occupy a 1.25 acre site adjacent to the UC Santa Barbara campus, are the home for Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. The structures were built in the 1950’s and have had virtually no upgrades in the 70 years since. The fraternity board of directors were interested in modernizing the facilities and adding improvements that would represent the best use of the property. Architecture, J. A. Inc. met several times with the board, both virtually and in person, to establish fraternity goals and a program for upgrades. Our proposal includes renovating both existing buildings per current needs and building standards, adding sleeping rooms, and planning a communal layout of outdoor spaces to support needs. Through the site planning process, a less used end of the property was identified for construction of a for-profit student housing building, contributing accommodations as an effort to lessen the housing shortage at the campus.
